Free logic-puzzle guide
Free logic puzzles online: start by finding the rule
A good logic puzzle rewards a clear explanation, not a lucky guess. You inspect the information, test possible rules and decide which answer follows. MindVault includes several forms of pattern and logical reasoning, from repeating shapes to numerical sequences and deduction problems.
Try this number pattern
Find the next number in the sequence: 2, 6, 12, 20, ?. Pause for a moment. Is the difference constant? Does the gap change? Can you describe one rule that works for every term?
What number comes next, and why?
Reveal the answer and explanation
The next number is 30. One consistent rule is n × (n + 1): 1×2=2, 2×3=6, 3×4=12, 4×5=20, so 5×6=30. You can also see the differences 4, 6, 8, then 10. In a good puzzle, being able to explain the rule is as useful as finding the answer.
How logic and reasoning games differ
MindVault's Cipher asks you to spot the rule in repeating shapes. Its Sequence game asks you to examine patterns and decide what fits next. Deduce presents clues about relationships between objects and asks you to draw a conclusion. Sudoku uses number-placement constraints. These games feel different because they involve different ways of reasoning, not just one repeated question type.
Four steps for solving a new puzzle
- Restate the question in plain words, rather than rushing to an answer.
- List the information you know and look for a repeated property.
- Test a possible rule against every example, not just the final two.
- If it fails, change the rule and try again. The explanation matters more than speed.
